Royal Mail and AERS teamed up recently to produce a tool that analyzes and provides eBay sales data based on post code throughout the UK. The data is completely anonymized, but is a perfect way for advertisers to pre-qualify their audience and send direct mail advertising to the consumers who would be most interested in specific products.

Last week James Verrinder from Research Magazine published an update on the project. Visit the article at Research.com.

Victoria, BC – The New Year has been a very good one thus far for Victoria-based Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems (Advanced). The final week of January saw inclusion of the rapidly growing organization in the “Ready to Rocket” list - a report on the top twenty-five private companies best positioned to capitalize on trends for growth in BC. The Rocket list is compiled by Rocket Builders, a market strategy and consulting firm based in Vancouver, BC.

“Each year when we choose the Ready to Rocket companies, we are looking for those companies that have best matched technical innovation with market opportunity. Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems is an excellent example of the right technology for the right customers at the right time.” said Reg Nordman, Managing Partner, Rocket Builders.

Later that week, Advanced was awarded the Best Early Stage Company – Information Technology honor by the Canadian Financing Forum. The Forum (where CEO Fred Speckeen took the podium for a fifteen minute pitch before more than seventy top investors from across North America) featured presentations from Canadian technology companies.

“We’re thrilled to be in such good company, including other innovators benefiting from an early commitment to SaaS” Says Advanced’s President and CEO Fred Speckeen, “Ecommerce is a commercial phenomenon that creates massive amounts of streaming, information-rich data. Advanced enjoys working directly with two of the largest ecommerce companies, eBay and PayPal, and we’re utilizing a combination of proprietary large data techniques, PaaS and SaaS to provide real-time analytics in this real-time marketplace. Additional platforms and service providers will soon be added to our list of partners. It’s a very exciting time for our very talented team, and we’re thankful for the honor of this recognition by RocketBuilders and the Canadian Financing Forum.”

About Advanced
Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems (Advanced) specializes in delivering ecommerce-based analytics and insight to support the investment, product management, marketing, and advertising decisions of its thousands of clients. Advanced does this based on its core competencies in storing and mining large ecommerce datasets. The company was founded in 2004.

About Ready to Rocket
Ready to Rocket is a unique business recognition list that profiles technology companies with the greatest potential for revenue growth. Each year, based on analysis of trends that will drive growth in the information technology sector, Rocket Builders identifies twenty-five (25) private companies that are best positioned to capitalize on the trends for growth. This selection methodology has been an accurate predictor of growth with “Ready to Rocket” companies exceeding the industry growth rate. Also, many of these companies raise investment capital and each year many of the profiled “Ready to Rocket’ companies are acquired.

About the Canadian Financing Forum
The Canadian Financing Forum is the leading showcase for venture capital investment in Canadian companies focused on information technology, and cleantech & advanced technology. It was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Macdonald & Associates and CanadaIT.com, the leading Web gateway to news and information concerning the Canadian tech industry.

Terapeak Marketplace Research, in partnership with WorthPoint Corporation, today announced the launch of Terapeak Collectibles, a powerful new research tool for antiques and collectibles vendors.

This new service, available exclusively via the eBay Selling Manager Applications platform, will pair AERS/Terapeak’s data analysis expertise with WorthPoint’s “Worthopedia”, an extensive online database that compiles antiques and collectibles data from eBay, auction houses, and other online marketplaces. Terapeak Collectibles will operate much like Terapeak’s existing eBay research tool, which allows users to search for specific products, and then see valuable analytics to help optimize his or her eBay listings.

Because antiques and collectibles require such specialized research—that is, it can be difficult to price an item that exists only in small quantities—the pairing of WorthPoint’s rich database with AERS/Terapeak’s delivery channel should be beneficial to all relevant sellers. Now, with access to the entire Worthopedia, sellers of ceramics, coins, stamps and other collectibles will have a market research option specifically suited to their needs.

To access Terapeak Collectibles, sellers must first be subscribers of eBay Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro. The application may then be added at this link.

Terapeak Marketplace Research, powered by AERS, today announced the launch of an iPhone application that allows users to conduct eBay market research on the go. Available free as part of all North American Terapeak subscriptions, the application will see users simply key their search term(s) into one screen, and with one click access item-specific data based on 45 days of closed eBay listings.

A valuable asset to both professional and non-professional eBay sellers, the Terapeak iPhone app allows users to see average prices, listing totals and sell-through rates for each search. Results are viewable and sortable by end price, start price and number of bids, and can be filtered by category, minimum end price and maximum end price. The application is the first and only eBay market research tool available to iPhone users, and is being launched as a holiday gift to all North American subscribers of Terapeak Marketplace Research.

“The iPhone platform has reshaped the face of business, and we’re excited to reward our users with this exciting new tool,” says AERS/Terapeak CEO Fred Speckeen. “eBay, especially, is a massive liquid market, where consumer appetites change more rapidly than anywhere else. Sellers need to be able to run their businesses in real time, based on real data, and that’s a field Terapeak has been specializing in for years. Our research shows that Terapeak users enjoy significantly higher profits than non-Terapeak users, and now, with this iPhone app, that advantage has been mobilized. Terapeak is in the hands of subscribers anytime, anywhere: at garage sales, trade shows, thrift stores, wherever. And these million-dollar opportunities exist each and every day.”

VICTORIA, Nov. 3 – Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems Inc. is proud today to unveil two Terapeak-branded PayPal merchant applications at the PayPal Innovate 2009 Developer Conference in San Francisco.

Fred Speckeen, AERS CEO, explains: “There is tremendous value locked up in every ecommerce merchant’s transaction data; information that could help every merchant make more timely and more profitable decisions. These new SaaS products from AERS will facilitate unlocking that value in ways that help merchants make quicker, better and more profitable decisions based on their own real-time transaction data. Having proven similar products and services focused on the eBay merchant community, it makes sense to expand our offering to provide similar services and applications to the even larger community of PayPal merchants.”

AERS PayPal Merchant Applications will include Terapeak Mobile Merchant(TM), a real-time business analytics application for the Apple iPhone, and Terapeak Merchant Analytics(TM), a real-time business monitoring and analytics SaaS application. Speckeen says, “Both of these apps are designed to provide Merchants with insights that support faster, more profitable decisions. They do so by allowing PayPal merchants to monitor and view their businesses and crucial analytics in real-time from wherever they are.”

“We’re thrilled that the leader in eBay seller research is now expanding its services to non-eBay businesses,” said Osama Bedier, PayPal’s vice president of platform. “AERS is using PayPal’s information and reporting APIs to turn a merchant’s data into powerful and actionable analytics that can even be accessed on your iPhone. It’s a great example of our developers building on each others’ ideas and creating services for the developer community.”

Founded on proprietary, very large database techniques and well-honed development skills, Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems Inc. provides ecommerce-targeted PaaS and SaaS services.
Advanced Ecommerce Research Systems Inc. (AERS) is proud to announce its sponsorship and participation at the PayPal Innovate 2009 Developer Conference in San Francisco on November 3-4, 2009.

“This is PayPal’s first developer conference, and it marks the unveiling of the PayPal Open Platform. AERS will be there, presenting in the sessions as well as introducing our first applications designed to support faster and more profitable decision making by PayPal merchants. The applications use a merchant’s own real-time transaction data.” says AERS CEO Fred Speckeen. “There’s tremendous value locked up in ecommerce transaction data, as AERS has shown and proven with tools and services that unlock that value. To date we’ve worked very successfully and exclusively with eBay transaction data. AERS is now moving to replicate this success with other ecommerce platforms and service providers, starting with PayPal. We’re looking forward to Innovate 2009 and will be providing more details on our new PayPal Merchant applications on November 3.”

Over the past several months, AERS has been conducting studies that analyze the impact of Terapeak’s marketplace research tools on eBay sellers’ sales and success rate. With the results from the first group of sellers now compiled, it’s clear how valuable transaction data can be to online business owners.

The group of participating eBay sellers was selected randomly, and features specialists in collectibles, home safety products, antiques and more. Eight performance indicators were tracked for three months for each seller. Statistics related to each indicator were compared on a pre- and post-Terapeak basis, and were then used to determine a percentage of growth or decline.

Some sellers showed improvement in every business facet, while the improvement of others focused on specific statistics. And when averaged across the entire group, every indicator showed at least some improvement.

Below is a table of indicators tested, followed by sales growth statistics:

Average growth

Best result

Sales Revenue

+ 94%

+ 381%

Average Selling Price

+ 36%

+ 153%

Highest Item Value

+126%

+ 487%

Inventory

+ 30%

+ 75%

+ 27%

+ 112%

+ 23%

+ 16%

+ 115%

AERS has always stressed the value that lies within every ecommerce merchant’s transaction data, and with help from this Terapeak case study, that advantage is made clear.

Here are a few anecdotes shared by case study participants:

[Terapeak] has enabled us to identify a range of products that our competitors are selling that we previously weren’t! And, just as importantly, has helped us to decide which products our competitors have not been able to sell, and [which] we shouldn’t be stocking either! –economiccomics

That’s where Terapeak comes in handy for me. I call my husband (who is more than happy to stay at home while I foray to yard sales and auction previews), tell him to get on Terapeak and check out items while I’m still at a sale. In many cases, that’s been very helpful in determining what or what not to buy. –6regentspark

I must say that [Terapeak] has changed how I do business and it has also allowed me to look into other markets that I might not have perhaps looked at before. -global-gadgets

We love the Terapeak service. –shiponsiteyng

I cannot say enough [about Terapeak]. Our customers now know that when we say we “Terapeak-ed it” that it’s good info. It makes our life so much easier when we can show people the true ebay value of their items. –quick2sellpgh

AERS and Terapeak thank all those who participated in the study.
